As more people get vaccinated and return to normal life, the economy is expected to bounce back thanks to demand for activities that were put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic.
But with that increase in demand, many businesses say they are struggling to hire workers.
The phenomenon is essentially the reverse of a worker shortage, according to representatives in the Labor Department.
There s still a plethora of jobless people to choose from, with more than 31,000 people still collecting unemployment from the state.
But businesses with unfilled spots aren t able to find them. What we are hearing, of course, are a need for workers to fill unfilled jobs, said Rachel Turney, deputy secretary at the Department of Labor.

Without the ability to schedule shows in 2020, Hampton Roads music promoter Josh Coplon questioned his future in the industry.
“I idled for a year like a lot of people did,” he said.
Coplon runs LAVA Presents, an independent music and event production company that organizes concerts at venues, breweries and restaurants across the region.

Richmond’s East Brother Beer Company has announced that it has expanded its distribution to Texas. The brewery’s lineup of core classics, coupled with its small batch seasonal releases, are now available in restaurants, bars, bottle shops and groceries throughout Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. The expansion to the new distribution area will happen via a partnership with Flood Independent Distribution, a craft beer distributor serving the major metropolitan areas in Texas.
